CELEBRITY ACTRESSES
TO JOIN 2006 WORLDWIDE V-DAY CAMPAIGN EFFORT
IN SPECIAL ONE-NIGHT ONLY CHARITY PERFORMANCE OF
EVE ENSLER'S "THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES"
EVENT TO BENEFIT HERSHE GROUP
Woman power will reign supreme again during Woman's Herstory Month this March when Kenadie Cobbin and her HerShe Group once again present a special one-night-only charity performance of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" in conjunction with the 2006 Worldwide V-Day Campaign. Celebrity actresses love to perform this piece, and this year, Rebecca Gayheart, Terri J. Vaughn, Victoria Rowell, Meredith Baxter, Constance Marie, Vanessa Williams, Niecy Nash, Ananda Lewis, Dawnn Lewis, Denise Dowse, MC Lyte and Natalie Deselle Reid are just a sampling of the actresses committed to perform.
"These talented actresses have committed their time and energy in a massive effort to raise funds and awareness to end violence against women and girls," remarked the director, Ms. Penny Johnson Jerald.
The Vagina Monologues will take place on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, 4401 W. 8th Street, in Los Angeles. Tickets are on sale now, log on to www.vdayla.org. Preceding the play, there will be a Red Carpet media event starting at 6:00 pm. Showtime is 7:30 pm. For more information, call the HerShe Group at 323 933 6500.
Last year's event was acknowledged by V-Day founder/playwright Ensler as one of the best as Cobbin produced a sold-out show directed by Penny Marshall and starring Teri Hatcher, Mo'Nique, Tracy Ellis Ross, Marla Gibbs, Lori Petty, Lisa Rinna and a host of others.
The 2006 Worldwide V-Day Campaign consists of over 1100 cities around the world joining forces to raise funds and awareness to end violence against women. V-Day Los Angeles will support the HerShe Group, a not-for-profit organization founded by Kenadie Cobbin, which empowers girls who are emancipating from the foster care system to successfully transition into adult independence. Internationally, 1 out 4 women are victims of violence. In the United States foster care system, 1 out of 2 girls are victims of physical and/or sexual abuse.
"The Los Angeles presentation of the The Vagina Monologues affords the HerShe Group the opportunity to raise money for HerShe programs that deal specifically with the deep emotional pain associated with a history of abuse, empowering HerShe girls to make a healthy and successful transition into adulthood," says Cobbin, passionately. "Last year's event was empowering, enlightening and simply amazing!" recalls Cobbin. "There is something special about women working together on such an entertaining, but serious and important initiative like this. The pace has been set again for an evening that promises to be electrifying!"
