RUSTLES UP HIS PARTNERS FOR THE REEL BLACK COWBOY FILM FESTIVAL

Black Cowboys in Film are Recognized at Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum/Blair Underwood, Glynn Turman and Others Pay Tribute to the Past

On the heels of the Annual Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, the legacy of the Black Cowboy will be honored and acknowledged when a host of celebrities gather together at the “Reel Black Cowboy” Film Festival, Friday, July 28, 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.  through Saturday, July 29 and  Sunday, July 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum in Los Angeles.

Presented by Dr. Mayme Clayton, and hosted by filmmaker/cowboy, Reginald T. Dorsey, the festival will feature a VIP reception, films, live music, photo exhibits and more.  Actors Blair Underwood, Glynn Turman, and Obba Babatunde, are slated to appear on a Celebrity Cowboy Panel on Saturday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m. For a detailed listing of events and ticket information, call (323) 737-3292 or (323) 667-2000.  The Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum is located at  4700 Western Heritage Way, inside Griffith Park, across from the L.A. Zoo.

“Reel Black Cowboys” will benefit Dr. Clayton’s Western States Black Research Educational Center, with proceeds to go towards the establishment of a permanent home for her prolific African American film collection, which she has amassed over the past 40 years.  Black Cowboys in films, past and present will be recognized with the screenings of such films as the classic “Sgt. Rutledge” starring Woody Strode, “Buck & The Preacher,” featuring Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte and “The Cherokee Kid” with Sinbad, Reginald T. Dorsey and Obba Babatunde.

Though often underrated, the Black Cowboy is a significant part of American history.  “Boldly embrace your future by honoring your past,” challenges Dorsey. “Black cowboys, we are America’s heroes too,”  he adds.

Da Moors, Custom Print Shop, Copymat Hollywood, Reed CD’s and Broken Horn are the proud sponsors of the “Reel Black Cowboy Film Festival.”
